Over the past few months, I’ve written regularly about the power of branding. I talk about how the Geek Squad took some risks with their brand that paid off handsomely in a blog post entitled How to Differentiate Your Brand by Taking Calculated Risks. I also discussed the Donald Trump brand in a post featuring my CNN interview on the subject.

Recently, CNN asked me to stop by again, not to discuss the Donald Trump brand, but to discuss the Oprah Winfrey brand. As you’ve heard by now, Ms. Winfrey invested in Weight Watchers and helped double the value of the stock in a matter of a few hours.

What is it about the Oprah Winfrey brand that makes it so powerful?

That’s the question I answered for CNN International in an interview with Richard Quest.

There are two qualities to the Oprah Winfrey brand that make it unique. The first is the fact that she comes across as an extremely genuine person. The second is that she represents what many people aspire to be — a humanitarian, a successful business owner, a philanthropist, and your favorite aunt — all rolled up into one.
