How To Use Press Releases to Improve Google Visibility

You can use content marketing to create awareness and lead generation in many novel ways, but when it comes to ranking high in Google, it seems to be a mysterious art akin to alchemy – particularly for non-techy small business owners and start-ups.

That said, there are plenty of great companies that can help with local SEO marketing that are able to ensure your company becomes more visible on Google, and today we’re going to look at one proven strategy relating to press releases, as a way to improve your ranking and visibility on the world’s largest search engine.

Today, companies are submitting press releases to boost their search engine rank and domain credibility with ranking sites such as Moz.  Now, most business owners understand that very few people, if any, will read these press releases – but that doesn’t matter, as there is one very important reader that will almost definitely read them; which is Google.

The practice of using press releases to boost your rank with Google is a well-known practice that can be quite effective, particularly with regard to building your domain authority.

Essentially, you submit press releases that are then published on a high ranking site with a link back to your website. When Google sends out its search robots to scan the entire web, and therefore find this content, they will rank your website higher due to the fact an already authoritative website (i.e. the one with the press release on) is linking back to your site; which infers trust and credibility.

You can submit a press release to many sites for a small fee and on certain websites for no fee whatsoever.

Whilst the content of press releases may not seem particularly riveting to most, something to bear in mind is that real-life journalists that work for mainstream newspapers such as The Sunday Times and The New York Times utilise these press release sites for ease of use and time-saving when it comes to writing an article that has a tight deadline; meaning it’s possible a journalist or research assistant from a national newspaper may link to your site in connection with a particular feature they are writing… all due to this process of submitting press releases.

In summary, press releases remain a pretty decent way to get high up in the search rankings within Google.  This is important today, more than ever, because, in reality, most people scan through the first page of Google and that’s where their search terminates.

If you rank on the 679th page, or even the 6th page, people simply won’t find you on Google – even if you offer a great product or service.

The point is, getting up in Google requires you to play the game according to Google’s rules… some rules can be bent but few can be broken, as if they are broken, Google will penalize your site.  It appears, at least for now, that using press releases in this way to boost your Google rank is a decent way to ethically bend the rules.
