What’s your opinion of the Donald Trump brand? That’s what CNN asked me this morning in a wide-ranging interview that covered branding, politics, and consumer behavior.
When you study the apparent appeal of the Donald Trump brand, you’ll be studying the power of branding in general. On the surface, Trump seems to be a refreshing alternative to politics as usual in Washington, D.C. But will that appeal last? Find out my take on that question in the CNN interview below.
I’d be curious to hear your take on the Trump brand. Do you agree that he gets away with saying sexist and racist things that would get him fired from any regular corporation? Or do you feel that what he says is refreshing and honest?
Let me know your thoughts below.

Great job Jamie! Want to update your branding assessment on Hillary yet??
Thanks, Susie. Much appreciated. And, yes, I guess I'll have to go back to the interview I did with CNN about the Hilary brand a few months ago. So much has changed in the past few months!
I really want to see your assessment of Hilary--from a branding perspective. Can you share the link please Jamie?
Hi Kimberly -- Thanks for the follow-up. Here's a link to the Hillary interview. (Oddly, there are no social shares on the post. I think there was a technical glitch with it.) Enjoy! https://60secondmarketer.com/blog/2015/04/29/cnn-asks-jamie-turner-to-weigh-in-on-the-hillary-clinton-brand/
Good insight Jamie. I am interested to see how Don's brand and answering questions changes as the public wants more validated answers to issues and questions.
I suggested to the CNN producer that they ask this question to Donald Trump -- if one of your employees said some of the sexist and racist things you've said while in a meeting at one of your companies, they'd be fired. Why is it okay for a Presidential Candidate to say those things, but not one of your employees? We'll see if it makes it into the Q&A. Fingers crossed.
Some things you overlooked.
1. It's still summer and politics has a way of supporting things in the summer that fall by the wayside come the harshness of winter.
2. Trump won't seem near as entertaining when people have to deal with the reality of who they'll vote for.
3. Five months is a long time in politics, as your comments awhile back vis-a-vis Hillary Clinton prove. The Iowa caucuses are still five months away.
You make some good points. I agree. Thanks for stopping by. -- Jamie
I am Trump-agnostic, but from a branding perspective, this interview was fascinating. It really reminded me that so much of politics is simply marketing/pr/branding. It was super exciting to see you on TV Jaime. Good job!!
